In 1718, Jai Singh started constructing an observatory. He was helped by Pt. Jagannath Samrat (a polyglot) and also by Pt. Keval Ramji who studied the daily motions of the planets. The two scholars translated in Sanskrit several authoritative works on mathematics and astronomy. Sawai Jai Singh sent the scholars to several foreign countries like Greece, Britain, Arabia, and Portugal to study the science of Astronomy.
